Unseen Passage for Class 4 - Passage 10

Posted by Olympiad Tester on

Taking care of your pet rabbit and keeping it happy can be easy and fun. Here are some quick rabbit care tips.

Keep your pet in a special pen called a hutch. It is usually small and has wires on the sides and bottom to let air in. The wires on the bottom let the animals' droppings fall onto a tray below. You should always clear the tray to keep the hutch clean.

Your rabbit will get bored easily if it is locked up in the small hutch all the time. This is because there is no space for it to move or run about. To help your pet get some exercise, you could build a "rabbit run" for your pet. Although it still has wires on the sides, it is much bigger than a hutch so the rabbit can run freely in it.

You should give your rabbit fresh water twice daily. Check that the water is clean. Your rabbit should be given food pellets mixed with chopped up vegetables. Sometimes, you can also feed your pet some bananas as a treat. However, do not overfeed your rabbit as it will become overweight and unhealthy.

Most importantly, you need to learn to pick up your rabbit carefully. First, support its bottom with one hand. Next, hold its neck with your other hand. Then, put it gently against your chest so it feels safe and secure. You should never pick your rabbit up by its ears!

How do we know that our rabbits are happy? They will grind their teeth gently and coo softly.
