The Stockholm Junior Water Prize, sponsored by IIT Madras, is now open for applications from students in Classes 9th to 12th. This inaugural India edition of the global water challenge invites young minds to address critical water-related issues. The deadline for applications is April 30, 2024.
About IIT Madras
IIT Madras, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is a prestigious technical university and one of India's Institutes of Eminence. Recognized as an Institute of National Importance, IIT Madras is hosting this competition in partnership with the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and Aquamap – Center for Water Management and Policy.
About the Competition
Organized by the Sustainability Venture Studio at the School of Sustainability, IIT Madras, this competition aims to recognize innovative projects addressing global water challenges. It encourages solutions for issues such as water pollution, unequal access to clean water, water scarcity, and more. Besides showcasing innovative ideas, the competition fosters a global network of young water enthusiasts, promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to school students in grades 9th to 12th who are passionate about water-related issues and eager to contribute innovative solutions. Students can participate individually or in groups of two. Participants must be enrolled in secondary or higher secondary educational institutions and should not be university students.
Benefits
The top 25 teams will have the opportunity to exhibit their projects at IIT Madras and receive training in presentation skills.
Ten outstanding teams will receive the National Water Champions Award, and schools demonstrating commitment to water and environmental concerns will be recognized.
The winning team will represent India at the esteemed Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Sweden.
