ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
Magma Poetry Competition 2018-19 is inviting applicants all over the world to participate in a poetry competition. The six prize-winning poems will be published in Magma. Winning and commended poets will be invited to read their poems at a Magma Competition Event in Spring 2019. Also, winners of the poetry competition can win up to GBP 1000.
Magma, supported by the Arts Council England, is organising this poetry contest.

- Magma Judge’s Prize for a poem of 11-50 lines awarded by Andrew McMillan, who will read all eligible entries:1st prize GBP 1000
- 2nd prize GBP 300
- 3rd prize GBP 150

- Magma Editors’ Prize for a poem of up to 10 lines awarded by a panel of Magma editors:1st prize GBP 1000
- 2nd prize GBP 300

APPLICATION PROCESS
Follow the steps below to apply for the poetry competition- Step 1: Visit the submittable link here. Step 2: Read the instructions before uploading the poetry entry. Step 3: Provide personal details such as name and contact details. Step 4: Upload the poetry file in .doc or .docx format. Step 5: Pay the entry fee and submit the online form. Step 6: Alternatively, entries can also be submitted as hard copies by enclosing a completed entry form found either on competition leaflet or available to download here. Step 7: Send the entries via post to the address below:

Note: The entry fees are GBP 5 for the first poem, GBP 4 for the second and GBP 3.50 for the third and each subsequent poem. Magma subscribers benefit from reduced fees. Payment must be made in sterling, by cheque or money order payable to “Magma Poetry” for postal entries.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Poems may be on any subject and must be in English and must be an own original work.
- They must not have been published, self-published or accepted for publication in print or online, broadcast or have won or been placed in another competition at any time.
- No alterations can be made after receipt, nor fees refunded.
- The judge’s and editors’ decisions are final and no correspondence can be entered into.
- No entrant may win more than one prize in each section.
- Copyright of each entry remains with the author, but Magma Poetry has the right to first publication of the winning poems in print and/or online within six months of the competition deadline.
- The applicants can subscribe to the magazine and take advantage of the reduced price entry to the competition by visiting the magma website.
- Poems longer than one page must give their title on the second page and the pages should be stapled together.
- Alternatively, the applicants can subscribe to the magma magazine by sending a cheque for GBP 18.95 payable to “Magma Poetry” for a year’s subscription (3 issues) to the print magazine to
